FISHERS, Indiana (February 1, 2008) -
Bringing important technology to the
Computer Forensics industry, Fishers based
Forensic Innovations, Inc. is introducing
File Expander. This new product
introduces the ability to extract each
object from a file, using a single
interface across all file formats.
Until now, software developers had to
license products from multiple companies
to manipulate different file
formats. Each company supplies their
own Application Programming Interface
(API) that has to then be studied and
added into the licensee's product.
This is very time consuming and requires
business relationships with multiple
vendors. Our solution provides a
single API for all file formats. In
one day, you can incorporate our API into
your product and gain access to all of the
file formats that we support.
Applicable
Industries
De-Duplication Backup
- Compare the individual objects in similar files, and only backup a single copy of each
duplicate object. This enables
backup software to save considerable
space when backing up files with similar
content or that use the same templates
and document layouts.
Document Management Text Indexing
- Extract and de-fragment only data blocks that
have text, to facilitate efficient
targeted text extraction.
Electronic Discovery - Dig down into fragmented, translated and compressed files
to search for evidence in the hidden and deleted data objects,
and research your digital evidence to better understand how the files are structured and be the expert in court.
File Recovery / Disk Carving /
File Carving - Break files down into their individual building blocks and discover what blocks are missing.
Verify recovered files for file
integrity.
Security / Virus, Worm and Trojan
Horse Scanning - Detect objects that don't belong in a file.
Many Trojan Horses include their executable as
a data object in a document and other good objects are modified to corrupt memory and execute the executable object.
The modified/corrupted objects may be
hard to detect, but an uncommon object
containing executable code, in place of
document data, can be very obvious.
How It Works
Your software provides the filename and
our API returns information about each
object in the file or a summary of all
objects in the file. Filter for
specific types of objects and you can
narrow your search to File Headers, Object
Headers, Object Footers, File Footers,
Archived Files or just the Data
Objects. Instruct our API to extract
objects and they are de-fragmented,
un-translated and uncompressed into
individual disk files that you can study
more in-depth without the hassle of
understanding the file format of the
parent file.
Supported File Types
Currently, we support 110 different types
of files, and we are adding to that list
with every quarterly release.
Eventually, we will support most of the
2,700+ file formats supported by our File
Investigator product, which is another
list that grows with each quarterly
release. For lists of the supported
file types, visit www.forensicinnovations.com/formats.html.
Product Plans
While we continue to add file formats to
our File Investigator and File Expander
products, we will also be leveraging these
two technologies in our upcoming File
Harvester and Object Interpreter
products. These new products will
recover files and file fragments from
unused, deleted, file slack and fragmented
disk space and enable investigators to
analyze file objects down to the
individual field level. With all of
our technologies, we provide the ability
to automate your tasks to provide the
highest possible efficiency to your
applications.
Pricing
The API can be licensed for distribution,
within a product, by user, or for
installation on servers. Our server
licenses range from $1,495 for
processing/expanding up to 500,000 objects
per day, to $23,900 for 8 million objects
per day. What ever capacity your
server can handle, we have a license
available for you. The first year of
support is included in the price of each
license. Each additional year is
$299 and $4,780 respectively.

File Investigator Engine
For over a decade we have been developing, improving and fine tuning this technology to identify more files faster and more accurately than any other company's product. Now that we identify over
2,700 different types of files, we will
easily reach 3,000 by the end of 2008. Not only do we identify the type of file, but we also extract metadata (from many of the supported file formats) and categorize the file for easy filtering. The result is more efficient use of your time in sorting and organizing your files or eliminating
files from your search.
About Forensic Innovations, Inc.
Founded in 1995, Forensic Innovations,
Inc. provides Computer Forensics software
products to customers around the
world. Our software identifies and
analyzes thousands of file formats, and is
used in Document Management, Data
Recovery, Data Security, Electronic
Discovery, Government Agencies, Law
Enforcement, Litigation, Research and
anywhere else that computer files need to
be identified. As the number and
size of hard drives increase so does the
need to identify, search and organize the
many types of data and files being
produced.
